  • ①　International students who are enrolled in (or will be enrolled in by April 2024) a regular university or graduate school program
  • ②　MEXT-funded international students (including those who will arrive in Japan by October 2024)
    *Exchange students, self-funded research students, and other non-degree students are not eligible.
• Course Levels: Elementary – Intermediate
• Course Fee: Free
• Application/Nomination Period: June 17 ‒ July 15, 2024

What is “TUFS Online Preparatory Japanese Language Course for International Students (OPJLC)”?

The Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) is offering online Japanese language course for international students*1 (undergraduate and graduate) from August to September 2024. In this course, students can choose between a “Live-Lesson Type” and an “On-Demand Learning Materials & Self-Study Type”*2 according to their level and learning style. Please refer to the “Course Outline” below for more information about the study contents.
Many international students have participated in the course and are now studying elementary and pre-intermediate level Japanese and living their university life in Japan with confidence. We look forward to your participation.
We plan to offer Elementary and Intermediate level Japanese language courses, beginning in the summer of 2024.
Students can take this online course from anywhere in the world with an Internet environment and access to designated application(s) and Internet services*3.

*1: International students who are enrolled in (or will be enrolled in by October 2024) a regular university or graduate school program are eligible. MEXT-funded international students (including those who will arrive in Japan by October 2024) are also eligible. Exchange students, self-funded research students, and other non-degree students are not eligible.

*2: The Live-Lesson course will not be offered in the Summer 2024.

*3: Access to Zoom (a video conference platform) is required to take the course.
