Media conversion (dubbing, etc.) and program recording

Analog materials such as VHS and cassette tapes will eventually become unusable as the playback decks are aging and the media itself deteriorates.

The Educational Informatization Support Office (Room 202) supports the digitization of teachers' valuable teaching materials so that they can be used indefinitely.

About sound and picture quality during media conversion

Please read the following and consult us in advance if you have any special requirements
  • For VHS, media conversion is performed in standard definition (SP) for video up to 2 hours in length and in high definition (XP) for video up to 1 hour in length.
    • This is because if the video is longer than 2 hours, the picture quality must be reduced to standard quality or lower to fit on a single DVD. Unless otherwise requested, we will adjust the picture quality to fit on a single DVD. If you would like to convert a long video in high quality, please contact us in advance.
  • Various analog sound sources such as cassette tapes / MDs / records can be stored up to 80 minutes per disc if they are playable on a CD player.
    • If the CD does not need to be played on a CD player and only an MP3 CD for data is needed, one CD (700MB) can contain approximately 11 hours.
    • MP3 CDs cannot be played on ordinary CD players; they can be played on any MP3-compatible CD player or PC.
    • MP3s can be delivered on USB instead of CD. Please bring your own storage media.

Usage guide, number of days required, etc.

  • As a general rule, please allow one week for media conversion. Please allow plenty of time for consultation. In case of large quantities or overlapping requests, it may take more than one week.
  • Media are not provided free of charge. Please prepare your own media for media conversion, such as CD, DVD, USB, etc.
  • In principle, requests for media conversion should be made by the faculty member him/herself. As an exception, we will accept requests from students themselves for videos of their practical training in education.
  • We do not accept online applications. Please fill out the application form and submit it to the Support Office. Application forms are available at the reception desk or can be downloaded.
